Ahhhh…so we have all heard about ‘ chasing the dragon’, but its real meaning is to seek what it represents as the first wonderful experience, and replicate it,
As previously stated, many of us have been touch-starved. This means that the physical closeness of embracing and caressing has been denied or withdrawn, or has not been offered to us regularly. We then subconsciously create barriers, disguising them as busyness, for example.
What I have found with my clients is that their initial experiences bring satisfaction from relaxation, the release of tension and even some emotional release. However, it is possible that after two or three sessions, the client (as well as I) can become accustomed to the touch and manipulation, which I might add, is a natural progression to well-being.
This is positive, implying that trust and collaboration have been established; however, it also suggests that the client doesn’t receive the initial sought-after sensations of relief because the body has aligned itself with self-healing and original expectations have been met.
This doesn’t mean there are no more benefits to be had from receiving regular massage. Still, I would then try to guide the client inward, inviting them to explore the internal messages by listening to their body, thoughts, and sensations.
This is progress and encompasses the whole mind, body and spirit aspect of the session.
